ESSA

The Every Student Succeeds Act is the national education law and longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students. ESSA includes evidence-based provisions to ensure that students are being taught to high academic standards that will prepare them to succeed in college and careers.

Financial Literacy

This is one’s ability to understand and effectively use knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about managing money and financial resources. It includes topics around personal financial management, budgeting, investing, and more.

Learner Record

The Beable Learner Record is a continually updated profile of a student, including information such as their personal and work-related interests, preferred reading topics, careers of interest, current Lexile level, and more. The Learner Records help develop self-awareness of interests, strengths, academic goals, and aspirations.

Lexile Framework for Reading

Developed by MetaMetrics, the leader in its field, the Lexile Framework is used nationally and internationally to determine each child’s unique reading level. Once identified, the Lexile score can be used to match students to reading materials at their just-right level. Through Lexiles, Beable engages a child in learning by ensuring they are always matched to text appropriately so they can independently understand their lessons. Student Lexile levels will grow throughout the year. See Reading Challenges to learn more about how Lexile levels change in Beable.

Question Helps

Beable provides several types of Question Helps—help in answering Lesson questions—students can use if they’re struggling with an answer. The Question Helps are available to students by earning Beable Bucks.

Reading Challenges

Every month, students receive a Reading Challenge—a series of questions that determine the progress a student is making in reading/Lexile. If the student does well on the challenge, their Lexile level is automatically increased, as is the lesson content complexity they receive. Reading Challenges are key to measuring a child’s reading growth/progress.

RIASEC Code

Part of the Holland Code system, this is a three-letter combination of an individual’s top career-related interests. RIASEC stands for Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional.

RIASEC Inventory

This is a 30-question survey that determines an individual’s RIASEC Code. Developed by John Holland, RIASEC is the most widely used interest inventory used across all work industries. Holland’s theory is that people have personality types that match with work environments. The harmony between the personality types and the work environments is what leads to job satisfaction and job success.

S-I-V-J Prompts

S-I-V-J prompts are questions pertaining to students’ Strengths, Interests, Values, and Job Readiness. Through the prompts, family members and students can have discussions, so kids better understand themselves and the unique contributions they bring to their family, their class, and their community.

Time on Task

Time on Task is a measure of the amount of time students spend actively engaged in acquiring new skills and knowledge.

Yes! We encourage you to take the RIASEC and see what your own RIASEC Code is. This enables you to better understand RIASEC and discuss RIASEC and career opportunities with your child. As an added benefit, you’ll learn a lot about your own strengths and interests, which can help with your own career progression. Take RIASEC here.

Lexile is a measure of your child’s reading abilities. In Beable, it’s used to match your child to texts that are at their just-right reading level. To understand how your child’s Lexile level compares to that of others in their grade level, talk to their teacher or visit this resource.

Your child should be completing at least two lessons per week to accelerate literacy and future readiness. But more is better! The more lessons completed, the faster the path to reading proficiency, academic success, and future readiness.

There is extensive evidence. Data from districts nationwide proves that Beable increases Lexile gains by up to 5 times annual “expected” growth. Beable is also certified ESSA Level II, which is a U.S. Department of Education certification of high effectiveness. Learn more here.

Your child’s reading ability will change throughout the year. Monthly Beable Reading Challenges measure reading ability. As it increases, the complexity of text in your child’s Beable lessons also increases. This is one of the ways Beable continually “ladders” your child’s reading level up.

Beable is suited for kids in grades 2 to 12 and for kids at every reading level. This is one of the most important benefits of Beable. The platform automatically delivers content whether a child reads below, at, or above level. All students in the same class receive the same content, but each one receives it at their Lexile level so they can all participate in classroom discussions and activities.
